Spokane area fans of J.R.R. Tolkien and Middle-earth are invited to attend the 6th annual Tolkien Moot the weekend of August 13-15. Tolkien Moot is a local gathering of scholars and gaming enthusiasts devoted to J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit novels.
Past guests of Tolkien Moot include Dr. Thomas Morwinsky, Professor Chris Seeman, John D. Rateliff, and Michael Martinez. This year's guests include Elvish singer Rehtaeh (Heather Downing) and Tolkien scholar Michael Martinez. Rehtaeh is scheduled to perform live on all three days of the Tolkien Moot. Martinez will host the "Raw Hobbit" show and co-host a livecast of Middle-earth Talk Radio with Tolkien Moot organizer Hawke Robinson.
Rehtaeh is the stage name of Kansas City musician Heather Downing. Performing as an Elvish singer at Renaissance Faires and other venues, Heather has acquired a loyal following of fans around the world. She released her first Elvish music CD, "The Contemplation", in 2005. A second CD, "Awakened", followed in 2007. A third CD in the series, "ElementAria", was released earlier this year and is available for purchase and/or download from popular emusic retailers like Amazon, iTunes, and Napster. Previously known as MERPCon, Tolkien Moot is entering its 6th year. Tolkien Moot remains the only Tolkien-related convention that broadcasts its activities live on the Internet.
