Vufind, Inc., a visual social networking company, today announced its first two applications: vuAlbum on social and vuTag for Android smartphones. The two applications enable consumers not only to search, organize and share their personal photos and videos, but also recognize the interests of the consumer by analyzing the user’s visual media.
The social media experiences realized with Vufind’s technology combine computer vision, augmented reality, as well as locative and social gaming concepts. Vufind’s mobile apps and games turn the consumer’s smartphone into a visual robot that can be used for an immersive visual and gaming experience.
Vufind’s first social application, vuAlbum, is a full-feature photo application that tags your entire collection of photos and videos on social, which then allows users to search by tag and organize them by theme, topic or sets of tags. vuAlbum runs an auto initiation function that periodically pulls and tags the recent photos with the objects of interest designated by the user. This allows the social albums to be always tagged and fully searchable.
VuTag, which comes in free and premium versions, is a mobile application that tags photos and videos stored on your Android smartphone before they are uploaded to the cloud storage you choose, thus your photos are easily discoverable and shared with your friends. Vufind's VASE engine can be trained to provide the highest degree of accuracy in detecting your object of interest from your cat to your favorite sports car to your favorite painting, flower etc.
The iPhone version of vuTag is planned to launch on August 9, 2010.
“VuAlbum and vuTag connect people to others who share similar interests and also connect them to brands that cater to those interests,” stated Moataz Rashad, founder and CEO of Vufind. “Through the self expression and sharing of personal photos and videos these media applications are both entertaining and compelling social experiences. The experience sparks the user's curiosity to find out how well the computer recognizes their favorite objects and interests. You can actually play intelligent strategy games to proactively improve the engine's ability to recognize your interests. People who share a particular interest can become a fan of the associated object set and through competition they are collaboratively helping Vufind improve its detection accuracy of those objects.”
Thousands of photos and an increasing number of videos are being amassed by consumers today and increasingly they are being stored in cloud services. Taking the time to manually tag and organize these files becomes a challenge. VuAlbum serves as an organizing utility for photos and videos while enabling users to easily create collages that are innovative and enjoyable to share with friends.
Vufind's unique core technology is the VASE object recognition engine that looks inside videos and images and identifies objects, scenes, faces, logos and concepts. Vufind's object recognition engine enables automated tagging of any video or image regardless of format or resolution. The engine learns to detect the object-based on training samples and utilizes user feedback to refine the precision. The more Vufind is used, the higher the precision in tagging the objects.
Vufind is also running photo submission contests for users to share the best photos of a particular object (i.e. their cat, favorite sports car, bike, sunset, flower, etc.). VuAlbum gathers these fan photos, automatically tags them and uses them to refine its accuracy in detecting the object of the contest. The winner of the contest will receive a reward from the brand that caters to that particular interest area.
