Effective from 2010, the Israel Journal of Chemistry has become part of the top chemical society portfolio that is published by Wiley-VCH, Wiley’s German-based publishing arm in Weinheim. Wiley-VCH acquired the journal in late 2009, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the start of official Israeli-German science relationships after World War II. The Israel Journal of Chemistry celebrates the publication of its 50th volume in 2010 and is the official journal of the Israel Chemical Society. Issue 1/2010 was published recently and is devoted to ribosome chemistry, honoring Professors Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas Steitz and Ada Yonath, 2009 Nobel Laureates in chemistry.

The international, peer-reviewed journal publishes topical issues, each of which is edited by Guest Editors and primarily contains invited Review articles. Upcoming issues will cover organic electrochemistry (honoring Professor Allen J. Bard, 2008 Wolf Prize Recipient), nanotubes & nanostructures, and metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. The journal’s Editorial Board consists of 12 world-renowned Israeli chemists, and of the International Advisory Board’s 30 prestigious members, 18 are Nobel Laureates.

Ehud Keinan, Editor-in-Chief of the journal, President of the Israel Chemical Society and Professor of Chemistry at the Technion in Haifa, Israel, remarks that “the history of the Israel Journal of Chemistry represents a microcosm that characterizes the incredible evolution of science in a constantly developing State of Israel. The journal survived and prospered in tumultuous waters due to the efforts and dedication of enthusiastic chemists, among them Felix D. Bergmann, Gabriel Stein, Aharon Katzir-Katchalsky, Shalom Sarel and Haim Levanon. Now it will greatly benefit from the enthusiastic publishing experts at Wiley-VCH. I am convinced that our joint efforts will bring highest quality standards and broad international visibility for the Israel Journal of Chemistry.”

Steven Miron, Senior Vice President, Scientific, Technical, Medical, and Scholarly Publishing of John Wiley & Sons, adds: “We are delighted to be the publisher of the Israel Journal of Chemistry, an excellent journal that strengthens our ties with the numerous influential chemists in and from Israel. Our partnership with the Israel Chemical Society complements our very strong partnerships with numerous European and Asian national chemical societies.”.

Originally a quarterly, the Israel Journal of Chemistry now publishes six issues both in print and online (ijc.wiley-vch.de) in 2010. Individual articles will be published online as EarlyView articles prior to full issue publication. For authors who wish to make their articles freely available online (open access), the Israel Journal of Chemistry offers the so-called OnlineOpen option.
