Wine and Design, Raleigh’s first and only wine and painting party company, has opened their studios during the day to form Sunshine and Design—a creative venue for children to spend a stimulating week at art camp full of imaginative and original art projects, paintings, and more.
Sunshine and Design Kids Camp is a one-week camp that allows kids to explore a new style of art by creating different paintings and fun craft projects. From Picasso to Van Gogh, children will be exposed to classic artists and techniques while learning valuable lessons—all while having a great time discovering their creativity.
Wine and Design (wineanddesignnc.com) is the dream of longtime friends and business partners Emmy Preiss and Harriet Mills. The premise of the business is to provide "memories and a masterpiece" in just two hours. Painting sessions are led by a local artist who provides step-by-step instructions to first-time painters, aspiring artists, or self-proclaimed pro's that result in an individualized work of art. Using the same premise, Preiss and Mills formed Sunshine and Design in order to give children the same opportunities to express their creativity and walk away with their own “masterpiece”.
“Within the short time that we’ve been open, we’ve had an incredible response from the public,” says Wine and Design co-founder Harriet Mills. “Since the adults were having so much fun, we wanted to provide the same experience to a younger audience. Our Kids Camp is our first venture to see if this program will be as successful as our adult events. Eventually, we’d like to offer more summer programs, track out classes, and perhaps offer art classes to homeschooled children and church youth groups.”
Sunshine and Design Kids Camp will be held July 19-23 for children ages 7-12. The cost of the week-long camp is $200. A $75 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve class space, which will then be deducted from the total cost. Children will need to bring lunch and a snack.
