MGM Networks, a division of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc., has announced that beginning next month The MGM Channel will be broadcast to subscribers across sub-Saharan Africa via the new direct-to-home satellite platform, My TV. The announcement was made today by Bruce Tuchman, Executive Vice President, MGM Networks.
The MGM Channel will join networks such as BBC World and Fox Sports on the growing My TV satellite service. “This agreement represents a very positive development for us in the African market and fits nicely into our preferred strategy of providing more and more local viewers with choice in channels and choice in platforms,” stated Tuchman. “We believe that the launch of My TV will help spur increased multichannel penetration and create even more attractive business opportunities for channels across this burgeoning television market.”
“The inclusion of western movies on the MGM Channel in the My TV bouquet will complement the news, music, children’s, sports, documentaries and local African programming currently available” said John Tydeman, Chief Operating Officer of My TV. “My TV offers entertainment for African families across the sub-Sahara at an affordable price. MGM’s decision to join My TV is a further endorsement by the international programming community of the My TV proposition”.
The MGM Channel broadcasts handpicked selections from the MGM library, the world’s largest collection of modern films, on a 24/7 basis. Over the last 5 years, the presence of The MGM Channel worldwide has grown by more than five fold to reach over 120 countries and territories across the globe.
My TV is a direct to home (DTH) pay television network developed by Strong Technologies LLC, Dubai. My TV is relayed by Pan Am Sat 10 encrypted with the Conax CAS 7 conditional access system and available on approved satellite receivers which include a wide array of Strong SRT satellite receivers.
The My TV bouquet includes 11 TV channels (The MGM Channel, BBC News, Fox Sports, Trace TV, MCM Pop, MCM Top, Eureka!, Baby TV, Fashion Tv Adventure 1, AIT) and a barker channel with additional content to be added in last quarter 2006.
