Ms Crooks has been an associate with the company since 2006 and has played a major role in delivering projects for a client portfolio that includes EMI, Hitachi Data Systems, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance Accountants (CIPFA) and Sony.
In announcing the key appointment, plusHR Chairman Roddy Watt said: “There is an increasing trend for organisations to outsource their HR function, in whole or in part, and there is equally a demand for high quality strategic and operational HR consultancy. In heading up our consultancy offering, Sharon will be aiming to build on our success and expand our presence in the consulting space, where we believe there are significant opportunities for our expertise and unique approach.”
The plusHR consulting team offers expertise across the whole spectrum of people and change management, including performance & talent management, learning & development, HR technology and change management.
“The philosophy of plusHR has always been to provide pragmatic support to clients, working in close partnership with them. This approach, combined with our depth of experience, has differentiated us from the competition and we have been very successful in delivering bespoke solutions rather than off the shelf products” said Sharon Crooks.
The consulting division will be looking to expand in areas where it already has a strong market presence, including media, technology, hospitality, professional bodies and the third sector, according to Ms Crooks.
“We also aim to expand into new sectors, especially to work with small and medium size enterprises (SME’s) which often have ambitious plans but may not have the in-house HR expertise to support their organisational change. In the current economic climate, we offer a real alternative to the large consultancies which have traditionally dominated the HR consulting world.”
Ms Crooks has been working across a wide range of client projects at plusHR, including the design and implementation of performance management systems and competency frameworks, HR process mapping, leadership and management skills development, team facilitation, the management of redundancy programmes and career transition counselling. “There are two keys to providing effective consultancy support to a client. The first is to understand what drives the organisation and the second is to understand what kind of people work there. My experience in various types of organisation enables me to tune in to the priorities and help the client to navigate their way through all the people issues to an effective solution.”
Ms Crooks held HR management roles within Hilton Hotels, Sony Music and International Distillers and Vintners (IDV), before being promoted to Director of HR Services at Diageo in 1996. Sharon has also published three successful books and is a trustee of environmental charity, Green-works She has two children.
