The launch of the new MySpace Comedy channel is in partnership with The Improv comedy club chain and is designed to mix user-generated content with branded creative material.
As part of the deal, MySpace will provide exclusive material such as behind-the-scenes footage from Improv clubs throughout the US.
"MySpace has really revolutionized the way comics reach fans and market themselves on the Internet," said "Fear Factor" host Joe Rogan. "The community offers a fantastic resource for promoting gigs and letting people see what your comedy is all about before they ever commit to seeing a show."
Others in the entertainment industry agree.
MySpace said it is offering comedians profile features that allow them to post tour dates, share audio and video clips and interact with their fans.
The site also will spotlight comedians, events, funny videos and forums for trading jokes and talking shop.
Through the partnership with the Improv, members will get exclusive access to editorial content and behind-the-scenes footage. Coupled with major promotions and touring partnerships, the Improv will use the Comedy community to promote events and host special nights for MySpace users throughout its 27 clubs.

Said funny guy, Phil Kuhlenbeck. "I went on it, because word-of-mouth on this thing is amazing," he said. "It's a great way to organize and meet fans."
"It's our hope that MySpace Comedy, much like Music and Film before it, will serve as a launch pad for up-and-coming comedians and as an attraction for the biggest names in the industry," MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson said in a statement. "It was a no-brainer to make a Comedy section with features designed especially for comedians," he said.
As of the week ending July 8, Murdoch's site became the single most-visited U.S. website according to Internet traffic measurement firm Hitwise.
