After a successful inaugural event, Southern California Ladies in Corporate Social Responsibility formalizes its organizational structure by announcing the appointment of four directors to its board and a strategic advisor. The board’s first meeting will be held May 6, 2010, in Los Angeles and the discussion will center on establishing the organization’s mission and charter, as well as board procedures.
The board members have all demonstrated a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for women in the corporate social responsibility (CSR) sector, and are representative of the diverse population of Southern California. An introduction to the four board members and a strategic advisor appears below in alphabetical order.
Tamar Benzaken-Koosed, Director
Tamar is the President of Manaus, a CSR and international development consulting firm that assists organizations in improving the living standards of the communities in which they operate. In the past, she has worked with the International Labour Organisation’s International Program on the Elimination of Child Labor and as STR Responsible Sourcing’s Latin America Research Associate. She holds a Masters of Arts in International Economics from the University of California, San Diego, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Southern California.
Carina Carrasco, Director
Carina has spent nearly 11 years in the CSR industry, working in operations at STR Responsible Sourcing. She has traveled to over 55 countries to perform social compliance assessments on behalf of Fortune 500 companies and now leads STR Responsible Sourcing’s globally-located operations team as Senior Director. Carina holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with an emphasis in International Business, from California State University, Long Beach. She is fluent in Spanish and English.
Gina Gelber, Director
Gina is the External Training Manager at STR Responsible Sourcing, developing CSR trainings for the company’s roster of corporate clients. She has also worked at Walt Disney Company’s International Labor Department and at Institutional Investor, and has consulted Fortune 500 and Hispanic Fortune 500 companies on a range of business solutions. Gina holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication from New York University, an MBA in International Marketing from Thunderbird University, and completed an academic fellowship at Oxford University in England, UK. She is fluent in English and Spanish, and proficient in French.
June Ip, Strategic Advisor (Marketing and Communications)
June is a Principal at Murmur Communications, a strategic communications consulting firm that has helped organizations leverage their charitable giving and CSR efforts across a broad spectrum of audiences. Her firm also consults non-profit organizations on branding and positioning strategies to attract corporate sponsorships and donations. June holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Development from the University of Guelph and a Graduate Diploma in Public Relations Management from Royal Roads University.
Cassie Walker, Director
Cassie is the founder of Three Elements Consulting, a consultancy that works with companies to advance social and environmental change. She is also the founder of The Sustainable Office, the creator of The Green Office Handbook, and a frequent contributor to Low Impact Living, the largest green home improvement site on the web. Cassie has an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles, Anderson School of Management, where she also serves as director on its Alumni Board of Directors. She is also an active volunteer for a number of environmental organizations.

SCLCSR was formed in April 2010 and aims to provide a venue for CSR women professionals in the Southern California region to foster valuable professional relationships in an inclusive and supportive environment.
