PRISYM ID and Epson today announce the launch of a joint offering for the healthcare sector, bringing together PRISYM Pharmacy labelling software and the Epson TM-C3400 printer. The solution provides hospitals and pharmacies with an affordable, on-demand, full colour pharmacy label printing and patient identification system.
The NPSA (National Patient Safety Association) has stated that clear labelling and identification of pharmacy products and hospital patients is crucial for the safe treatment of more than a million UK citizens per day. Recent recommendations relating to the dispensing of medicines include the use of colour to differentiate products to ensure patient safety as well as a shift towards electronic prescription services, auto-ID and automation technologies.
PRISYM Pharmacy software is a purpose-designed labelling solution for healthcare organisations. It has been specifically developed to help meet current compliance requirements and recommendations, including MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) and NPSA. PRISYM Pharmacy is supplied with lifecycle documentation based on the GAMP (Good Automated Manufacturing Practice) version five model. It allows users to design, review, approve, print, re-print and reconcile labels. Users can do all this with the peace of mind that it has purpose-built user security, group security and secure audit logging, as well as data integrity. It can also link simply to ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning) systems to ensure that information from the pharmaceutical production unit can be delivered to the label at time of print.
The Epson TM-C3400 is a cost-effective choice for colour printing within hospitals. Using long-lasting pigment ink and a wide choice of media, it will deliver 'on demand' colour labels to print critical information on pharmacy labels, patient wristbands, specimens and blood bags. It enables the user to print on a variety of media - from 30mm to 108mm, up to 0.2mm thick and on fanfold format paper. Users can select from plain paper, fine paper, synthetic paper, PET film, receipt paper, continuous label paper and die-cut label paper.
Benefits of the joint solution include:
• Implementing one complete solution to fulfil the labelling and identification process;
• Meeting industry compliance requirements;
• Ensuring complete history is maintained through the system by automatic revision and version control;
• Producing over 35 types of barcodes including GS1 as recommended by NPSA;
• Simplification of label design.
