The BALB/c line has proven a strong resource in medical research, but with limited options. The capability to produce BALB/c custom gene targeted mouse models opens up new avenues of investigation to researchers.
The BALB/c mouse line has established utility in medical research fields such as immunology, cancer and cardiovascular. This mouse line is particularly known for long reproductive life spans, high anxiety and resistance to diet-induced atherosclerosis. Classically, BALB/c cell lines display poor germline transmission performance when used for transgenic and gene targeted mouse models. iTL has generated a BALB/c cell line which overcomes this limitation to deliver more powerful research tools to scientists in fields utilizing this mouse strain.
‘iTLB’, the iTL BALB/c cell line displays initial indications of a robust line with high rates of homologous recombination and germline transmission. A notable observation from the projects delivered to date is that low percentage chimeras display high germline transmission rates. A technical whitepaper providing the details of the work will be released in the second quarter of this year.
“In a niche industry where competitors are consolidating and public resources such as KOMP are expanding, maintaining our service advantage is critical” states Wei Weng, CEO at iTL. The company has evolved from a single type of genetically modified mouse to delivering a host of intricate and flexible model types. Researchers too are progressing to new and diverse needs for their investigation programs. As the leader in providing custom mouse models to academic and medical researchers throughout the world, iTL takes responsibility in contributing to the growth of the research tools they can draw from.
The company’s philosophy is to support the transgenic mouse community as a whole. Weng states his belief that “by developing new technologies and services, and brining more resources to our customers, we will maintain our well regarded reputation for quality.”
