Tabor Communications, Inc. announced the launch of a new internet portal and weekly email newsletter titled HPC in the Cloud (HPCintheCloud.com), dedicated to covering Enterprise & Scientific large scale cloud computing. The portal will provide technology decision-makers and stakeholders (spanning government, academia, and industry) with the most accurate and current information on developments happening in the specific point where Cloud Computing and High Performance Computing (HPC) intersect.
"General cloud computing is quite pervasive throughout IT, but many of the issues for deploying large scale cloud computing are significantly more complex and are impacting acceptance. HPC in the Cloud is the communication channel -- the bridge that will facilitate and thus accelerate acceptance and advance adoption of cloud technologies in HPC and large-scale computing," said Tom Tabor, Publisher of HPC in the Cloud. "HPC in the Cloud will focus on the opportunity where HPC and cloud computing intersect and work to distill community to find the common threads among the ideas that spring from the front lines of this important technology paradigm."
“As a practitioner of high performance computing, the emergence of a publication that is dedicated to the challenges that are being faced as organizations work toward cloud computing implementation in extremely large compute centers is most welcome, “ said Dr. JS Hurley, Principle Investigator and Director, National Nuclear Security Administration and DOE sponsored Center for Disaster Recovery, and contributing editor for HPC in the Cloud. “While there is an abundance of information in a crowded marketplace dedicated to general IT cloud solutions, information addressing the very high end of computing has been lacking. I look forward to contributing to this publication and helping to shape the coverage as we work through the issues.”
Leveraging a rich history in covering large enterprise and data-intensive computing, HPC in the Cloud will launch with a searchable database containing over 5,000 articles chronicling the evolution of broad-based distributed computing, grid computing, virtualization, and IT as a Service (ITaaS) culled from the archives of HPCwire, and former publications GRIDtoday, and On-Demand Enterprise. HPC in the Cloud will launch as the exclusive information source with an email database of tens of thousands of buying IT professionals worldwide with specific interest in following the developments of cloud computing in the HPC space.
“Cloud computing is emerging as a true revolution in computing technology, however with revolution comes an inundation of hype, confusion, and disillusionment,” said Nicole Hemsoth, Editor of HPC in the Cloud. “I believe in the possibilities of cloud computing within the space of large-scale, high performance computing, and am eager to witness its potential unfold. With that said, my responsibility as the editor of HPC in the Cloud is to filter the hype and provide our readers and community members with information and perspective based in reality and practicality. I’m honored and excited to be part of this effort to create this new, critical new portal, and to help facilitate the building of a community around this important topic.”
“We have the readership, the resources and history in place to make HPC in the Cloud an immediate success and establish a powerful world wide HPC cloud community including individuals and organizations from all applications of big data: Financial Services/Wall Street, Retail, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Science, Government, Automotive, Pharma, Entertainment, HPC Architecture, and more,” commented Tabor.
"Cloud service models are without a doubt the wave of the future, but confusion about what a cloud can (and subsequently can not) do for you seems to be the wave of the present," said Wolfgang Gentzsch, Advisor to the EU project Distributed European Infrastructure for Supercomputing Applications (DEISA), a member of the Board of Directors of the Open Grid Forum, and a contributing editor to HPC in the Cloud. "Therefore, having an online portal that provides global access to the daily narrative on the happenings of cloud computing in large-scale compute environments will be extremely valuable to our global community hungry for this information."
“The combination of cloud and high performance computing is a dynamic duo that will deliver time-to-market and cost advantages to those who are able to capitalize on the technology,” said Bruce Maches, former Director of Information Technology for Pfizer’s R&D division, current CEO for BRMaches & Associates and a contributing editor for HPC in the Cloud. “We’re looking at a bona-fide ‘golden age’ emerging for life sciences R&D and a defined set of services dedicated to large-scale cloud computing requirements for the life sciences is going to be well received in a market place filled with a lot of confusion. I’m looking forward to contributing to this effort, and doing what I can to help increase the signal to noise ratio in the HPC cloud market space.”
"Cloud computing is having an effect across the entire HPC ecosystem," said Addison Snell, CEO of InterSect360 Research. "We've already engaged with end users, hardware vendors, middleware vendors, and application ISVs in our cloud research and even those who aren't doing clouds or planning clouds are talking about clouds. Regardless of what you think about cloud computing today, it's a topic that you have to stay current on."
