Spanish Marketing, Inc., a Dallas-based marketing agency, celebrates four years of success with a reception and scholarship ceremony. The ceremony will be held on June 3, 2005 from 3 to 6 p.m. at SMI headquarters at 8828 N. Stemmons Freeway, Suite 310 in Dallas. The Honorable Carlos García de Alba, Cónsul General of México, will be on hand to award the scholarships.
SMI has marked their first four years with a healthy client roster and their first national project. SMI’s clients include Tejas Broadcasting, Pizza Patron, Banco Independiente, Paymark, Sodas Victoria, Toro Homes, Morelia Restaurants, Pollo Campero, One Touch Communications and Attorney Margaret Donelli. This year also marked the first national project that SMI has undertaken with a contract from MADD.
The reception will also include a ceremony for the Spanish Marketing, Inc. Scholarship Program. The four $2,000 scholarships will go to Hispanic graduating high school seniors who demonstrate financial need and a passionate desire to attend college. Each of the students were selected based on academic achievement and extra-curricular involvement. Rene Peña, Dallas Independent School District community liaison, will follow up on the scholarship winners during quarterly visits throughout their college education.
SMI received a positive response when they went to their clients asking for contributions. In addition to the scholarship SMI funded, Tejas Broadcasting, Morelia Restaurants, and Toro Homes have underwritten one scholarship each.
Hispanics’ access to higher education has been limited even though the Hispanic population has increased 61 percent. While 24.4 percent of the general population has college degrees, only 10.4 percent of the Hispanic population has a college degree. Contributing to this education gap is the fact that the average income for Hispanic households is $34,397. [U.S. Census]
