International Atomic Energy Agency consultant and third-term Wyoming legislator David Miller told StockInterview.com in an audio interview, “The uranium sector must re-invent itself,” after the G8 Summit in Russia. During the weekend’s G8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President George W. Bush agreed to terminate the HEU (Highly Enriched Uranium) agreement between the two countries, after it expires in 2013.

Many U.S. utilities have benefited from what Miller said were “garage sale prices” for the enriched uranium down blended from decommissioned Russian nuclear warheads. Russia also announced at the G8 summit it planned to terminate its monopoly agreement with USEC in order to directly deal with U.S. utilities. Miller, who is also president of a uranium development company with uranium properties in both New Mexico and Wyoming, believes U.S. utilities may soon be knocking on his door to fill the uranium supply gap. According to the Department of Energy, unfilled uranium inventory falls off sharply closer to the end of this decade. Miller believes his company, and others developing uranium properties in the western United States, will be prepared to help fill the supply requirements for U.S. utilities.
