Founder, Lisa Pederson says “we host this event for many reasons but one is to give people a way to give back easily, and given the economy I wanted to see all the new volunteers get a chance to participate, now with the Naturally Nora donation, it will make it even easier to see this wish come true.”
2009 Bake for Hope hosted almost 70 says in 21 cities nationwide, with hundreds of volunteers raising $27,000 dollars. “This year we are over 200 sales nationwide, and we are so grateful for the volunteer support.”
Bake for Hope also received generous donations from Bob’s Red Mill with 500 lbs of flour, Wholesome Sweeteners with organic sugars and syrups, and King’s Flour with 500 lbs. of flour.
The Bake for Hope event hosts bake sales across the country for a week in May leading up to Mothers Day, May 2nd – 8th. Proceeds are donated to local Susan G. Komen affiliate offices nationwide, supporting local women with breast cancer treatments and screenings. Pederson says, “We love that the money raised locally stays local.”
Bake for Hope (bakeforhope.org) was created in 2008 by Lisa Pederson, a San Diego resident, also the founder of non-profit Cause Good. The sole objective of the Cause Good is to connect communities through giving. Lisa Pederson, is known for connecting people for worthy causes. Pederson liked the idea of bake sales because of its availability: everyone from children to seniors can participate. She says “Bake sales create a sense of warmth, togetherness, and community and in this economy it provides an affordable way for everyone to contribute to something good.” See Pederson’s bio the Bake for Hope website.
