ArtistWorks, Inc. (AWI) Today Tony takes it down a notch with the addition of slow motion lessons to the online Tony Trischka School of Banjo.
In response to enrolled online student requests, ArtistWorks has augmented the entire “Tony Banjo” curriculum with half-speed versions of Tony’s lessons in order to aid the learning process. Maintaining proper technique while adding speed is a common challenge for beginner and intermediate students of the banjo. Slow- Motion lessons allow these students to master the technique without the pressure to speed-up their playing. The slow-motion lessons are also “pitch-corrected” so that students can easily play along with them while learning.
"In our continuing effort to make it as easy as possible to learn to play the banjo, ArtistWorks has now added slow-motion versions of the lessons on the TTSB,” says ArtistWorks CEO David Butler, “These slow motion videos reveal the secrets of advanced banjo technique to Tony's online students. With close-up photography, multiple camera angles, full transcriptions, and now slow-motion, the TTSB provides banjo students around the world a complete and immersive learning platform."

Student response to the slow-mo lessons has also been positive. “I love the slow down sections, I find them really helpful,” says student BLTupper. “The slowdown feature is a godsend,” agrees student AgentHeath. The addition of slow-motion versions of the lessons is the most recent example of the ArtistWorks commitment to maximizing the students’ learning experience on its instructional websites.
Since the TonyBanjo.com site opened in 2009, more than 150 video lessons, student video submissions, and performances have been added. The “Special Guests” department has proven extremely popular. This area features segments from notable banjoists Bob Carlin (“An Introduction to Clawhammer”), Bill Keith (“Melodic Style and Beyond”), Noam Pikelny (“Exploring Single String Techniques”), and Mike Munford’s popular “Banjo Setup and Repair” that is a valuable addition for those studying to be well-rounded players.
