Pittsburgh, PA, United States, 2010/03/19 - Mercedes-Benz has officially approved PPG DP4000 2K primer by PPG Industries’ (NYSE: PPG) automotive refinish business for worldwide refinish repairs of all Mercedes-Benz cars. NYSE: PPG
The unique 2K primer is designed to help body shops cut costs and increase productivity. The technology underpinning PPG DP4000 2K primer enables body shops to dispense with the need to sand the electrocoat substrate on new panels. This can reduce the process time for primer application by up to 50 percent and ensures that the corrosion protection of the electrocoat is maintained.
Michael Gimpl, Mercedes-Benz manager, global service and parts, said, “We are pleased to continue the collaboration with PPG in aftermarket sales, as we are convinced of their high product quality. These new primers are another example of their dedication to the production of innovative systems.”
PPG DP4000 2K primer is capable of sealing off the most sensitive substrates and is suitable for direct application over unflatted new panels coated with OE electrocoats, and also most rigid plastics.
“We are, of course, very pleased that Mercedes-Benz has approved this new product,” said Ron Thomas, PPG manager, OEM technical Europe. “PPG DP4000 2K primer has been tested for stone-chipping, adhesion and corrosion resistance on rub-through areas and has successfully proved its high performance. We are particularly pleased with final appearance on horizontal and vertical areas that complies with appearance of OEM paint systems.”
One of Mercedes-Benz’s highest priorities is customer satisfaction. To ensure it attains that goal, the company requires its partners to design and deliver high-quality systems. With the introduction of these primers, PPG continues to provide Mercedes-Benz with the high-quality products it expects and to help body shops improve workshop efficiency, time management and costs.
