Evolution Time Critical has been awarded the Frost & Sullivan 2010 European Logistics Vertical Market Penetration Leadership Award. The award recognises Evolution's market leading position in the provision of emergency logistics and is presented each year to a company that has demonstrated strong vertical market business growth coupled with a deep understanding of customer needs and excellent performance. It is based on the findings of Frost & Sullivan's extensive research into best practice among 250,000 companies in over 300 different industries worldwide.

Frost & Sullivan's researchers identified four key factors as the driving forces behind Evolution's award, including strong demand for emergency logistics among manufacturers striving to keep assembly lines running as production volumes increase, and the growing trend of sourcing components from developing regions. Long established customer relationships and customer referrals were also identified as major contributory factors, together with the company's expertise in using all modes of transport (air freight, on-board couriers, helicopters, road and sea) to facilitate urgent deliveries.

"We are delighted to be recognised by Frost & Sullivan for our achievements in the emergency logistics sector," comments Brad Brennan, managing director, Evolution Time Critical. "We have experienced a growing demand for our services in the past year as OEMs place a greater emphasis on emergency logistics in their contingency planning, and are pleased to be able to support the automotive industry's return to higher production volumes. We are also receiving progressively more interest in our services from the marine and aviation industries."

The prevalence of lean supply chain strategy among OEMs has presented a distinct challenge for manufacturers as post-recession assembly lines experience increased levels of production. Evolution Time Critical regularly facilitates urgent shipments of key components for major vehicle manufacturers, saving them up to €1m per hour in stoppage fees. In one recent example the company prevented a £500,000 production delay by shipping 600kg of desperately needed automotive components from China to Mexico over a weekend, using a single courier.

"OEMs have been focussing on making their supply chain leaner and their assembly line, just-in-time," says Archana Ashwinkumar, senior research analyst, Frost & Sullivan. "Furthermore, they are globalising their procurement to source from low-cost regions to reduce their inbound costs, which results in the lengthening of the supply chain, increasing the risk of line stoppages."

Transportation issues such as delays caused by suppliers, industrial action, adverse weather and breakdowns constitute 25 percent of the total issues addressed by emergency service providers. During the recent cold snap in Europe, Evolution saved manufacturers over €30m by arranging emergency transport for shipments that became delayed as the continent's road networks experienced severe delays.

"Evolution Time Critical's biggest success has been its constant customer referrals," continues Ashwinkumar. "OEMs increasingly recommended Evolution Time Critical to their tier 1 suppliers for fast and reliable delivery or included its services in their initial supply chain contingency planning. The company has also experienced repeat business from customers that were dissatisfied with low-priced providers."

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognise companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.

The presentation of the Frost & Sullivan 2010 European Logistics Vertical Market Penetration Leadership Award follows Evolution Time Critical's participation in this year's Automotive Logistics Europe conference, where it was invited to lead a discussion on the importance of integrating premium freight and emergency logistics into the lean strategies of automotive companies.

"We're glad to be able to contribute to discussions surrounding the importance of premium freight by drawing on our experience of the continually evolving emergency logistics sector," concludes Brennan. "As we continue to diversify into new industries, we hope to be able to offer an increasing amount of insight into optimal emergency logistics services for different industry sectors."
