About the SPM Project
Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. - Visakh Refinery (HPCL-VR) is is developing crude unloading facilities and installing SPM Terminal and connected facilities off the coast of Visakhapatnam Port to receive and offload crude by VLCC tankers at the water depth of about 35 metres, at a distance of about 4.2 kilometres from the coast. Crude from SPM will be pumped and transported via 48-inch NB line pipe from SPM to Crude Oil Terminal (COT) located near the refinery.

The offshore section of the pipeline route is about 4.2 kilometres from SPM to LFP (Land Fall Point) and onshore section from LFP to COT is 12 kilometres.

HPCL has awarded the offshore part (and 150+ metres onshore up to isolation joint) to Leighton. The scope of work includes:

• Pre and post installation surveys;
• Procurement of permanent material is limited to few flanges and fittings;
• Pipeline coatings (3LP and CWC);
• Installation of 4 kilometres offshore and 150 metres onshore of 48-inch pipeline. Landfall part installed by shore pull (approximately 500 metres in length);
• Installation of SPM system including 6 anchors system (driven piles) and PLEM (driven piles);
• First 500 metres to be pre trenched to achieved 2m cover top of pipe. Mechanical backfill to be performed;
• Offshore part to be post trenched 0.5 TOP with natural backfilling;
• Fabrication/testing of spool connection between PLEM and pipeline;
• Installation of Buoy, subsea hoses, floating hoses, umbilical and telemetry system;
• Pre-commissioning and commissioning of pipeline and SPM system.
