Leading furniture and homewares website mydeco.com celebrates its second birthday today having hit over 1 million monthly visits for the month of January. In the two years since launch, the site has become the first stop for consumers who are designing and shopping for their homes.
Nicole Vanderbilt, mydeco CEO said ‘Because we play such a central role in interiors online, we’ve built up a fascinating picture of how the nation is shopping for their homes. 2008 was the year of the accessory, with shoppers looking for affordable ways to make the most of their home – but in 2009 we’re seeing a return to people looking for bigger ticket items like sofa beds and tables’.
Top search terms on mydeco.com in 2008 included curtains, rugs and duvet covers – all affordable ways to update your home on a credit crunch budget, none of which appear in the top ten for 2009. Instead, top searches for 2009 show consumers shopping for more costly items, with dressing tables, desks and floor lamps entering the top ten.
Nicole comments, ‘We know that people’s homes matter to them - whatever the economic climate. Whether it’s just the right dimmer switch or a beautiful new sofa, changes small and large make can make an important difference. mydeco.com is a unique resource for consumers, bringing together over 2,000 incredible retail partners and 5 million products – and we’re confident we’re going to see bigger investment in the home for 2010.’
Nick Moore, Managing Director on The Conran Shop UK, a key partner of mydeco since launch, said “Here at The Conran Shop we’re proud to be associated with mydeco.com, who really are at the forefront of developing new ways to retail online. Its fresh & vibrant approach has helped to bring good design to a wider audience and is helping customers enjoy shopping for their homes online. mydeco has quickly grown to be a very important part of our business.”
Looking towards the future, Brent Hoberman, co-founder of lastminute.com and mydeco Executive Chairman commented “mydeco.com has come a long way in two years, but the furniture, homewares and interior design industries still have a long way to go to realise the full potential of today’s technology. In 2010 we plan to keep innovating through advancements in 3D and visualisation tools, further development of our community platform, and new mobile phone applications – all of which will make designing and shopping for your home better, easier and ultimately much more fun.”
