Dubai eGovernment was one of the finalists at the ‘Best Practices in Mobile & Wireless’ Awards Program organized recently by Computerworld’s Mobile & Wireless World in Orlando, Florida. Dubai eGovernment was chosen as the finalist in the ‘Managing Cellular Mobile Data’ category which recognises best practices for building and managing PDA-based mobile networks designed to remain compatible with enterprise needs on a long-term basis.
Dubai eGovernment’s mobile portal was particularly appreciated at the event, as it allows users to access information and carry out transactions instantly via hand held devices. Also in focus was Dubai eGovernment’s strategic deployment of mobile and wireless technologies in enhancing efficiency, productivity and bottom line returns while significantly controlling costs and streamlining business processes.
Information available to Dubai eGovernment’s mobile portal users include visa information from Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department (DNRD), prayer timing services from Awqaf, traffic fine enquiries and payments from Dubai Police, online flight booking from Emirates Airlines and flight information from Dubai Civil Aviation Department. Dubai eGovernment is the first public sector service in the Middle East to launch such a portal.
“Being chosen as a finalist in such a prestigious award which draws entries from all around the world, is indeed a big achievement for us, and is a recognition of our commitment to quality, innovation and customer-focused eServices,” said Salem Al Shair, eServices Director, Dubai eGovernment. “As Dubai moves closer towards the creation of a digital society, we are committed to introduce more value-added electronic services that will benefit larger sections of the population.”
Ron Milton, Executive Vice President, Computerworld, said, “Mobile and wireless technologies are at the forefront, enabling companies to achieve both financial and technological goals that would have been unthinkable a decade ago. The companies recognized in this year’s program are groundbreakers in using mobile and wireless technologies to reap these results, and they can be proud of the accomplishments of their talented IT professionals. Their hard work and dedication to the best practices in the mobile and wireless industry benefit their companies, employees, and customers alike.”
The awards finalists were evaluated by a panel of mobile and wireless experts, industry editors and IT business analysts based on case study submissions that profiled the company’s IT department, mobile and wireless challenges, application deployment details, key technological initiatives and measurable solution outcomes.
