Celebrated musicians Kronos Quartet present a selection of their works during an 8 pm. Mainstage performance Friday, Feb. 5, at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.
The string quartet’s program includes works written or arranged specifically for them, including Ramallah Underground’s “Tashweesh” and “Harp and Altar” by Missy Mazzoli.
Named Musicians of the Year in 2003 by Musical American and 2004 Grammy winners for Best Chamber Music Performance, the foursome covers a wide variety of genres, including Mexican folk, experimental, Middle Eastern and others.
The group recorded the soundtracks for the films “Heat,” “Requiem for a Dream” and “The Fountain” and have worked with artists and poets, including Bjork, Allen Ginsberg, David Bowie and Faith No More.
In addition, Kronos also has brought a classic spin to the rock genre, recording its own version of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” and the songs of Nine Inch Nails. Group members also have covered songs by Tom Waits and Sigur Rós, proving their ability to push music beyond the borders of conventional chamber music.
The Feb. 5 performance includes a free post-performance MAC Chat with the artists.
Tickets to Kronos Quartet are $44 for adults, $42 for seniors and $34 for College of DuPage students and youth.
