Healthworks, Inc., and Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc., have entered into a collaborative agreement whereby Healthworks will provide Toshiba access to a variety of Healthworks’ educational programs and resources to deliver educational programs to technical personnel in invasive and non-invasive cardiology, electrophysiology, radiology. This relationship will provide both onsite and online clinical education programs to individual cardiovascular technologists and nursing professionals working in healthcare provider organizations such as hospitals and group practices.
The partnership efforts of Healthworks and Toshiba reflect the rapid adoption and use of imaging technology by cardiologists in both diagnostic and invasive settings. For instance, the volume of cardiac catheterization procedures performed in the US has grown nearly 17% between 1998 and 2003, with an estimated 3.85 million procedures being administered in more than 2,000 cath labs each year.* What’s more, the growing use of computed tomography (CT) technology in cardiac settings has had a profound effect on the early detection and treatment of heart disease. This growth has translated into a need for technical professionals to be cross-trained and educated, to meet rising patient care demand.
“Toshiba’s significant commitment to helping educate technical personnel so they can perform at their best is clearly demonstrated through this partnership,” said Keith R. Chamberlain, CEO of Healthworks’ professional development and education division. “Our ability to deliver online and onsite courses to Toshiba’s customers in the invasive cardiac specialty area also accomplishes certain key objectives of each of our respective strategic plans.”
“Toshiba’s clinical education program has been developed to help our customers deepen their clinical knowledge and provide the best in patient care with our advanced technologies,” said Anita Bowler, Manager Customer Education. “Our agreement with Healthworks expands our selection of comprehensive programs providing the healthcare professional an effective learning experience.”
