Muscat, Ruwi, United Arab Emirates, 2010/01/04 - Petroleum Development Oman, gold sponsor of the upcoming Gulf Eco exhibition will showcase its range of initiatives in the areas of environment protection, sustainable development and environmental management programmes from January 11-13.
Being the major exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman, PDO accounts for more than 70% of the country’s crude oil production and nearly all of its natural gas supply; and exclusively operates the gas fields on behalf of the Omani government.
At Gulf Eco 2010, PDO will showcase its initiatives that have been implemented, including integrated impact assessments to anticipate and possibly prevent impact on environment due to project related activities.
Other initiatives that will be showcased at the exhibition would include PDO’s collection, storage and treatment facilities to manage solid, liquid and gaseous wastes produced during operations as well as initiatives for improving environmental performance and ensuring compliance with government regulations and its environmental management systems.
According to PDO officials, the company has completed energy efficiency reviews on all its production stations and is finalizing the Front-End engineering of a project to generate steam using Concentrating Solar Troughs (Parabolic Mirrors) for a thermal EOR field – the first of its kind in the world.
“PDO strives to operate with minimum impact on the environment it operates within. As we continuously improve on environmental performance and more efficient operations, we view the Gulf Eco 2010 exhibition as a special platform for PDO to connect with various environment players and organisations and promote and impart our various initiatives. Thus, we encourage them to visit our booth at the Oman International Exhibition Centre between January 11 to 13, 2010”, Khalifa Al Harthy, Head of Corporate Environment and Sustainable Development said.
Meanwhile, OITE, organiser of Gulf Eco 2010 will also hold the Gulf Eco Symposium on January 12, 2010 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Seeb, Muscat. The Symposium will highlight on Sustainability, Climate Change, Water, Renewable Energy and the Future of Communities in the Gulf Region.
