Calloway’s Store Manager, Ty Poynter, arduously worked throughout the summer by preparing the soil, tending the garden, harvesting the vegetables, and delivering the results to the Denton Community Food Bank each week. The last harvest took place the week of Nov. 30 just before the first freeze in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
“For the past six months, we were able to provide nearly three-fourths of a ton of vegetables to help people in need. I am so excited to have been a part of such an awesome humanitarian event,” Poynter remarked.
KTXA 21 News began their “Survive in ‘09” series this summer in an effort to provide information to help viewers in this challenging economy. Calloway’s Nursery partnered with the station to show their audience how to make a home garden from start to finish. Interested gardeners can visit any one of the 17 Calloway’s Nursery locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for expert advice on how to plant a garden.
Calloway’s and Cornelius Nurseries is a 19-store garden center chain serving the Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston markets. The company strives to make gardening fun, easy and successful for customers by offering expert advice from Texas Certified Nursery Professionals; store environments that are educational and easy to shop; weekly gardening clinics that serve both novice and expert gardeners; displays and instructions to aid gardeners with design and color development in their yards; and a product selection of the best plant varieties available.
