Located just a few miles west of downtown Los Angeles, Olympia Medical Center is centrally located, and accessible from the greater LA area. On December 1, 2009, Olympia celebrated its fifth year serving the communities surrounding the greater Miracle Mile neighborhoods at the crossroads of Olympic Boulevard, San Vicente and Fairfax.
As a special treat the owners served the employees lunch in the hospital’s cafeteria.
Olympia Medical Center was originally founded in 1948 as Midway Hospital Medical Center. The hospital has undergone several owners. In 1993, Summit Health Ltd. sold the hospital to OrNda HealthCorp. It was then purchased by Tenet Healthcare in 1997. Many of the advantages that Olympia enjoys are the result of its smaller size -and the comparatively good condition of the hospital when Tenet sold the facility in December 2004.
The hospital was renamed in April 2005 when Tenet sold it to Physicians of Midway, Inc. It was bought for $12 million by the group of physicians led by Shahram Ravan, MD. The new name is drawn from the fact that the building is a community landmark located on Olympic Boulevard.
Shahram Ravan, MD, says, “We are proud of the continued service to our community and the hard work of our physicians and staff in providing the best care available to our patients.”
Olympia successfully recruited physicians with more prestigious practices including non-invasive back and spine surgery, brachytherapy (radiated seed implants for prostate cancer), hyperhidrosis (sweaty palms) and continent ostomy -- to name a few.
John A. Calderone, PhD, CEO, says, “What a wonderful milestone to achieve. We will continue to seek out the best physicians, nurses and staff to serve our patients.”
Olympia's smaller size has given it the flexibility needed to make the necessary changes to continue to be successful. Calderone added that our next goal is to bring in more physicians and to continue to improve our patient relations and become the best at customer service.
Olympia (olympiamc.com) has recently added technological support with the addition of a nuclear camera.
