Tim McTighe opened a small retailer, The Cedar Store, in the suburbs of Pittsburgh in 1992. Dedicating himself to an exceptional standard of hand-crafted cedar outdoor furniture, he was overwhelmed by the response and demand. “Before long, requests began pouring in for more than just furniture,” McTighe explains. “So, our woodcrafters took their meticulous standards of workmanship to build gazebos, sheds, trellises, picnic tables and arbors.”
Soon after, 1999 opened a new chapter for McTighe and his small business. He set sail by opening an online store featuring his same superior products; CedarStore.com. And, sure enough, he experienced another inundation of orders. Leading the way from Western Pennsylvania, CedarStore.com is a pivotal contributor in the growing trend toward outdoor living.
Now, ten years later, McTighe’s once small business offers one of the largest selections available in patio chairs, porch swings, chaise lounges, garden benches, gliders, picnic tables, dining sets, outdoor structures and more in cedar, pine, oak, teak, cherry, aluminum, polywood, vinyl, synthetic wicker and thermo-plastic coated steel.
The Pittsburgh area has always been a city where dreams come true. McTighe said, “It’s always just been about customer service.” It was that simple ideal, treating people right, that Western Pennsylvania is known for that launched CedarStore.com into success.
Just as a once small store turned into an international website—one international website has grown into four more. AllPicnicTables.com focuses efforts on the highest level of residential and commercial picnic tables. GazeboCreations.com features pre-designed cedar, pine or vinyl gazebos, but as a business always trying to give their customers exactly what the want, includes a Gazebo Wizard to completely customize options. TeakDesigns.com carries a wide variety of patio furniture all hand crafted with teak, the most revered outdoor living material. Finally, DesignerBridges.com offers a large selection of garden and pedestrian trail brides, and even a place to create your own captivating covered bridge! “We designed all of our websites to be and easy and fun to use,” says McTighe. “We also packed them with information so our customers can get the right furniture for their needs.”
With live Project Assistants available from 9 am to 7 pm Monday through Friday and 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday, outdoor living is always just a click or call.
