The AudioBookCase audiobook releases are intended to be definitive productions of the time-honored classics of literature. What is meant by the "time-honored classics”? It's a term referring to the body of classical literature (including modern writers) which has been deemed as deserving of lasting recognition. The classics touch upon the widest imaginable range of subjects: Religion, art, philosophy, drama and poetry, science, mythology, politics and law and as a result they have been incredibly influential. Most, if not all of our familiar cultural ideas, symbols and catch-phrases have some reference or counterpart in the classics. That in itself is an excellent reason for reading and becoming familiar with them. They are books that have wielded a peculiar influence, coming down to us carrying the weight of ideas and impressions that have had shaping influences on our culture.
A classic resides on our shelves a pregnant book, every re-reading giving birth to the discovery of nuances of thought perhaps missed or interpreted differently in the course of the previous encounters.
As such, a classic demands rereading. It is a book that is never finished saying what it has to say. The classics, then, are books which, on first reading, we find even more marvelous than we might have expected; and on rereading can awaken in us deeper insights into ourselves and the world.
The mission of AudioBookCase is to present these masterpieces in definitive audio versions, essential additions to the shelves of any serious audio collection.
