Paris, Ile de France, France, 11/18/2009 - November 19 is Beaujolais Nouveau night in France. Le General Hotel in Paris has created a unique approach to this fete – a Champaign Soiree. Alternative to the traditional, the celebration is the Un-Beaujolais Nouveau.

"Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé
Announced boisterously with banners and balloons, Beaujolais Nouveau wine is celebrated in bars, cafes and brasseries on the 3rdThursday of November. What began as local festivities in Lyon and Beaujolais became a marketing-made fete in 1985. Shipped all over the world by various attention getting means, Beaujolais Nouveau wines’ arrival created the perfect excuse for populist celebrations.
Taking only 6 weeks from vine to bottle, hence new ‘nouveau’, the wine itself is not always celebratory. Actually, Nouveau is the lowest wine in the Beaujolais hierarchy and tastes can range from fruity + lively to plonk. But a gathering of friends and fun overshadows the unpredictable quality of the wine.
Franck Altruie, Group Director of Le Groupe de L'hotellerie, fully embraced the concept of a fun fest with friends and colleagues therefore decided to evolve this distinctly French phenomenon to a more sophisticated level.
His idea – the Un-Beaujolais Nouveau, a Champagne Soiree .
Pairing up with Champagnes Bruno Paillard, Franck and his team celebrate the 3rd Thursday of November in style at Le General Hotel in Paris. Now in its 3rd year, Soiree invitees sip and socialize in the casually sophisticated lobby bar at Le General Hotel, often spilling out into the street.
The delightfully crisp champagne from the Riems caves of Bruno Paillard is matched by the inventive amuse-bouches offered by Le General staff members. Invitees clearly prefer champagne taste but what really sets the Soiree apart is attitude.
François Colas of Champagnes Bruno Paillard and Mr. Altruie envisioned a third alternative…neither the raucous commercialism of BoJo night, nor a snobby, stuffy champagne reception but a cool, convivial gathering with friendly conversation and excellent wine.
By all measures, they have succeeded, possibly creating a new tradition.
The designer hotel backdrop, joie de vivre of guests and Un-nouveau bubbly combines to make the Champagne Soiree is a definite hit. Mr. Altruie is now considering ‘sharing the spirit’, creating Champaign Soirees at the Groupe’s other hotels, notably Le Grand Balcon Hotel in Toulouse and Le Quartier Hotels in Paris.
