Millennium Golf Discs, a leading manufacturer of golf discs based in Austin, Texas, is hosting its 10th Annual Texas Teams Tournament this weekend at the Circle R Disc Golf Ranch in Wimberley, Texas. Teams from all over the state compete for the title in a tournament which has become the largest Teams Tournament in the world -- this year there are 366 players and 45 Teams registered. Eleven of those teams are from the Austin area. Most major cities including Dallas, Ft Worth, Houston, Corpus Christi, and San Antonio are represented as well as San Angelo, College Station, San Marcos, Arlington, and several others.
Disc Golf is growing at a phenomenal rate, and part of the growth stems from events hosted by John Houck, the sport's most renowned course designer and owner of Millennium golf discs. Disc golf is now played in 50 countries around the world. Texas has become a hub for the sport. Houck’s devotion to sport and his many contributions have earned him the title of a “living legend” in the sport. As a resident of Austin, Texas, Houck has designed courses in 15 states and two countries, and the first course he designed was Zilker Park in Austin. Circle R Ranch is the home of Houck’s two Championship courses where he hosts two other annual events: the Amateur Doubles World Championships in March and the World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend in May every year.
“Disc golf has become so popular as it is accessible to players of all ages and is inexpensive. Disc golf combines a modern phenomenon -- the flying disc -- with one of the world’s great games -- golf,” says Houck.
