Little Star Gallery recently announced its presence in the Denver-area art community with the opening of its first location in Golden. Opened by well-known local businesswoman Shelly Metz, Little Star features the inspired works of famed glass artist and designer Douglas Rich. The wide range of handcrafted, inspired collections at Little Star include lighting, jewelry, sculpture and furniture, among other creative lifestyle pieces.
“The inspiration for this gallery came from a simple gold necklace my father once gave me that was created by this incredible artist, Doug Rich,” said Metz, “Months later I came across other pieces of his work and I knew I had found the artist who would help me realize my dream of reentering the art world. Little Star Gallery is this dream come to life.”
The cozy gallery is nestled into the picturesque hills of Golden, Colo., creating the perfect backdrop for the often Southwest inspired designs. Currently, Metz’s gallery has a wide range of styles, designs and mediums featured from Rich’s creative collection. From Anasazi print chandeliers and southwestern wall sconces, to sparkling amethyst and chunky amber necklaces, Little Star has a piece for everyone’s taste and style. One of the hallmarks of the Rich’s art, “Archeo-Glass,” suggests a likeness to stone, amber, fossilized ivory and leather, which he achieves using individual techniques he has developed throughout his artistic career.
“This gallery is unlike any other of its kind,” said Metz. “We’ve has created a space that is both open and welcoming, while at the same time, shows the true spirit and story of each piece of artwork. Coming to Little Star Gallery will truly be an experience for anyone who walks through our doors.”
This is not Metz’s first hand at business in Colorado. Nearly a decade ago, she was an integral part of building the internationally recognized performance nutrition product company EAS. After her work with EAS, and her most recent work with independent book publisher, High Point Media, Metz has returned to her artistic roots with the Little Star Gallery.
