(CLASI) will celebrate the relocation and expansion of their Georgetown office with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House on Monday, November 23 from 2:00 -4:00 pm at their Georgetown office - Declasi.org.

The original "Legal Aid Society" was established in Delaware in 1946 by members of the Delaware State Bar Association who saw the need for legal services for people who could not afford to hire a lawyer. Since that time, legal assistance programs for people with disabilities and individuals age 60 and over have been added by the organization. Most recently CLASI added the Fair Housing Program to enforce fair housing rights for all people regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, and familial status.

CLASI provides free civil (non-criminal) legal services to eligible Delawareans. A true statewide organization, CLASI maintains offices in New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties. Our attorneys and paralegals work in close collaboration with other non-profit agencies, state and local governments and the community to help our clients improve their lives in a meaningful and lasting way.

In 1979, the Georgetown office at 144 East Market Street opened. This was the first permanent CLASI office downstate. In 2006, CLASI purchased more than 8,000 square feet in the Georgetown Professional Park from Easter Seals. This purchase allowed CLASI to expand to a larger and safer facility and provide low-cost offices and conference space to other community service organizations. Partnering with U.S.D.A., Discover Bank, Longwood Foundation, Welfare Foundation, Delaware Community Foundation, Good Samaritan Foundation and NCALL helped CLASI to achieve this milestone real estate venture.

CLASI’s Georgetown office area is also home to the YWCA, DATI, DCRAC and Pressley Ridge. Other lease opportunities are still being sought to enhance the community services offered in lower Delaware.

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House is open to the public. Our Georgetown office is located at 20151 Office Circle in the Georgetown Professional Park (across the highway from Wal-Mart.) Executive Director, Chris White, will be available to discuss CLASI’s newest initiatives as well as other opportunities.
