Mr. Taft is President and CEO of USATies, a consulting company that helps small and medium businesses develop marketing and business plans and assists them to commercialize products through international contract manufacturing and distribution. USATies has an international staff in three countries and is registered with the United Nations and other government organizations. He has consulted for a number of organizations and a multitude of public and private companies.

Through his programs at the University of Central Florida and his own consulting and previous work in the U.S. Foreign and Commercial Service, he has helped over 2,500 companies expand abroad in over 100 countries. His book, How to Grow Your Business Globally, has enjoyed success worldwide.

He has served on a number of boards, including the Florida District Export Council, the Florida International Development Council, Team Florida, and now Palingenesis Manufacturing Inc. and is a founding member of the Orlando Foreign Affairs Committee. He has been a keynote speaker at numerous functions, and has a large network of contacts in Florida, the U.S. and internationally.

He has conducted training and done consulting work for foreign governments, and trade specialists from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Enterprise Florida and several World Trade Centers. As president and CEO, he managed the international efforts of all the Florida World Trade Centers. He worked with Enterprise Florida to create the Florida Team Trade Network. As part of this effort, he coauthored and helped to negotiate the first-ever business alliance between the U.S. Government (U.S. Department of Commerce), State (Enterprise Florida) and private (World Trade Centers) sectors to combine resources for an integrated statewide trade promotion program, and toured the state with Enterprise Florida to promote the network with economic development partners.

The program, won the U.S. Council for Urban Economic Development’s Gold Trade Export Award for “the most innovative, effective community-based trade program in the U.S.”

Mr. Taft has taught international business at Georgetown University and the University of Central Florida. While at UCF he created and ran the award-winning IB 2000 Program that he expanded to four universities to cover all of Florida. Through the program over 100 students traveled to over 35 countries to work on behalf of Florida companies. He generated over $50 million in sales for Florida companies. He also trained nearly 100 commercial officials from 21 countries and consulted on the reconstruction of selected national foreign commercial services.

In this position as Under Secretary for the U.S. Department of Commerce, Mr. Taft managed 130 overseas offices that specialize in brokering international business between U.S. companies and those of other countries, with resources of $110 million and over 1,200 people. He has been involved in several key trade negotiations for the United States around the world, including the initial sessions of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Uruguay Round that resulted in the forming of the World Trade Organization. Over his career, he has assisted hundreds of companies in their exporting efforts. He also worked on the development of new U.S. commercial programs in Europe, China, Latin America, Croatia/Bosnia, South Africa and Vietnam.

As U.S. Commercial Minister in Australia and Venezuela, he helped over 50 U.S. corporations win major projects abroad amounting to over $10 billion and in many cases assisted these corporations in developing salable offsets to be most competitive.

Companies include General Electric, AT&T, Lockheed Martin, Rockwell International, Harris Corporation, Litton Industries and UPS to name a few. He developed the AUSA program that created strategic alliances between Australian and U.S. companies, and helped form business relationships between Australian organizations and U.S. counterparts that stand to this day.

He developed a commercial agreement between the states of Louisiana and Zulia (in Venezuela) and helped resolve a major antidumping case between Venezuela and the United States.

In this position as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Export Promotion Services, he managed all of the export services and international computer operations for the U.S. Department of Commerce, including trade show exhibition services, the International Buyers Program, the Agent Distributorship Service, and the Gold Key Service, among others.

Mr. Taft has also served as Chairman of the Marketing Task Force on the President’s Trade Promotion Coordinating Commission. He taught international business at Georgetown University, and has published articles in the international trade press.

Mr. Taft has a bachelor’s degree from St. Michael’s College, a Certificate of Administrative Management from the University of Virginia, and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. He served on the Board of the U.S. Foreign Service and is a member of Who’s Who in America.
