ECTACO Inc., a New York based company, best known for their budget series of eBook reader JetBook, hand-held electronic translators and translating software, have launched a least expensive eBook readers available on the market - the ECTACO jetBook-Lite at MSRP $149. The product was unveiled to the public during Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany.
According to David Lubinitsky, the companys CEO, The idea behind this new product was to offer the lowest price without risking quality and functionality. The jetBook-Lite is modeled after the previous one by striping off all unnecessary functionality and leaving the most essential reading options. We used four AA batteries to add flexibility to the eBook reader. User has an ability to replace them with rechargeable batteries. The other breakthrough is an option to download and read books from Barnes and Noble site using built in eReader DRM.
With virtually no limit in formats, and now with Barnes and Nobles backing, the jetBook-Lite supports eReader DRM, ePub, Mobi, PRC, RTF, .txt, .pdf, .fb2, .jpg, .gif, .png, and .bmp, along with support for many languages including English, Spanish, Russian, Polish, and others. The pocket size, independent power source, multilingual interface, built in dictionaries, and hundreds of books in different languages downloadable directly from JetBook.net site allow this eBook reader to be highly useful for public schools and college students as well as frequent local and international travelers.
jetBook-Lite (jetbook.net) expected to appear in US retail stores later this month. European release is scheduled for spring 2010.
