On Wednesday, October 21, 2009 beginning at 1:30 PM (EST), Dr. James Kerby, Vice President of Medical Affairs, and Barbara Luskin, Quality Manager with Grand Valley Health Plan will be the featured speakers in a webinar sponsored by the Health Intelligence Network (HIN). They will share from Grand Valley’s practical experience and lessons learned in preparing for, and achieving recognition as a Patient Centered Medical Home from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), through its Physician Practice Connections® program. The webinar, titled “Achieving NCQA’s Patient Centered Medical Home Recognition” is the latest in HIN’s “Medical Home Open House” series, focused on key topics for implementing Patent Centered Medical Home practices.
In December of 2008, Grand Valley Health Plan’s Family Health Centers became the first primary care practice in the state of Michigan to achieve NCQA recognition. The NCQA is considered the gold standard for independent oversight and accreditation of healthcare organizations in the U.S. According to Melanie Matthews, HIN Executive VP and COO, “NCQA recognition is fast becoming the yardstick by which healthcare payers measure whether providers are delivering patient-centered quality care. The Grand Valley Health Plan experience is a blueprint for healthcare organizations that are primed for practice transformation. This webinar offers the opportunity to question these early adopters about the process.”
The Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) concept addresses the rapidly escalating cost of healthcare by shifting emphasis away from treatment of a particular symptom or illness, in favor of an ongoing, whole-person, relationship-centered approach; delivering high quality preventative medical care in an environment that is patient focused, physician guided, and cost-efficient. PCMH principles have been widely accepted and endorsed by payers, providers, and legislators as a promising component in driving comprehensive healthcare reform in the United States.
