Jalandhar: Students made optimum use of the opportunity provided by Lovely Professional University to seek a place for themselves in a good company here on Oct 14’09. The IT/BPO joint venture to recruit students and professionals met with a great response. Around 850 students participated enthusiastically and traveled from Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Hyderabad and Rajasthan to be a part of the same. The event catered to a large population when students from other colleges and universities also participated. Nearly 20 colleges expressed satisfaction in coming all the way and said it was fruitful to have made the effort.
Big names like Contact Bridge ITES Pvt Ltd , KDMS – Kinerk Direct Marketing Solutions, JST Soft Solutions Pvt Ltd., Genpact India and Tata Business Support Services Ltd. Were among the ones who visited the campus to recruit students. These companies made industry specific demand to cater to professionals which was exhibited by their minimum qualification and the profiles for which the job was being seeked; Senior Web Designer, Accountant, Dot Net Developer, Project Manager, Assistant Manager, Software developer, CCE, Sr. CCE, Quality Analyst Business Analyst, Team Leader and Trainer to name a few. Pay packages on the lines of 2.5 lakh per annum were also being offered.
Vivek Lehri from Panjab University, Chandigarh, pursuing BTech (CSE) said, “This opportunity has come across as a very well yearned for, I always dreamt of working for a big brand and LPU has provided so many companies to us under one roof.” He added, “This makes us feel that our education and hard work has not gone waste especially when the market is not fully recovered form the slump.”
Colleges like AIMT(Shri Atmanand Jain Institute of Management & Technology), Ambala participated in the workshop as according to them it was too good a opportunity to let go off. Preeti, one of the students said, “It was wonderful to have provided with job opportunities in this manner. It’s good to see so many companies coming for hiring, which clearly shows that IT sector is coming out from the period of recession.
Chancellor Ashok Mittal, keeping a low profile said, “We always believe in giving the best to the society so maximum students benefit from it. It definitely took an effort to bring in companies and ask them to offer such good pay packages and profiles, but if not us, then who else in the society will think for the students?”
He went on to add, “We surely take pride in the fact that more than 200 vacancies were required to be filled, students were placed in companies of their choice and we promise to continue making efforts in future too to cater to the unemployed youth of the nation.”
