Coal House at War – released 7th December
This follow-up to Coal House, the highest-ever rated factual TV show in Wales, is currently airing on BBC Two on Monday nights, and returns to Stack Square for a taste of life in 1944. In this series, three families will experience all the dangers of hardships that were commonplace in Britain during the Second World War such as rationing, blackouts and air raids.
The men work long, punishing days down the coal mines, as well as tending to the Stack Square allotments and arduous Home Guard training. The women must juggle their household chores with their compulsory work at the munitions factory, while the children have more pressing worries; cod liver oil! But through the tough times, the families will also experience the community spirit and courage that the Second World War evoked across the nation.
This three-disc set features all nine episodes of Coal House at War, as well as over six hours of additional footage, including ‘The Children’s Experience’ and ‘Dance House 1944’.
Fred Dibnah’s Building Collection – released 28th December
This fantastic series sees Fred Dibnah explore his passion for great building and engineering as he visits a host of houses, castles, churches and shipyards right across Britain, bringing the history of each location to life as only he can.
Fred visits a number of iconic sites during his travels, from the medieval tithe barn in Sussex and the historic castle used as a command post during the Second World War, to the Windermere Steam Boat Museum and cruising on a Scottish loch on a steamboat. Fred also goes onboard some of his favourite ships, including SS Great Britain.
This three-disc set is Fred Dibnah’s sixth DVD collection, and features over five hours of previously unseen footage.
