The shortlist for The 2009 “AIBs” (AIB International Media Excellence Awards) has now been selected from the more than 200 entries initially submitted. The list represents the best of global broadcasting and has entries from every continent, and from 26 countries as diverse as Argentina, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Nigeria, New Zealand, Romania, Pakistan, UAE, UK and the USA, to name but a few.

Commenting on the variety and high standard of entries this year, Simon Spanswick, AIB CEO, said “The range of entries once again shows the vibrancy of international broadcasting. The industry faces many challenges as technology dramatically increases the number of channels by which the audience can access broadcast media. But the shortlist reveals the high quality programmes that are being produced and demonstrates the value of professional output in an age of user-generated content. It also shows the innovative ways that international broadcasters are using multi-channel output to reach their audiences. The AIB is delighted that the awards each year attract entries from more and more countries.”

The shortlist will be judged by an independent panel of respected professionals from the broadcasting and wider media industries, making these awards unique in broadcasting because of their independence from commercial interests.

The shortlisted entries range across the different categories covered by The “AIBs”, which include separate awards for radio and television, in current affairs, coverage of a single news event, creative features, and personality of the year, as well as awards for innovation in marketing, use of technology and cross-media productions.

The award ceremony takes place at a gala evening attended by broadcasters from around the world and held on Wednesday 4th November 2009 in the splendid surroundings of LSO St Luke's in London. Full details of the 2009 International Media Excellence Awards can be found on the AIB website.

The judges for the AIBs have a vast range of experience in different aspects of broadcasting and are drawn from all over the world.
