While still virtually unknown, vanadium has been used for decades and is quickly becoming a priceless resource in the fight for climate change. Putting vanadium on the map is Canadian-based Uranium Star Corp. who recently announced it had found what may be the world’s largest deposit of the element in a remote region of Madagascar. Though vanadium has a wide range of uses, the area where it stands to make a significant difference is in renewable energy. The story behind Uranium Star and its newfound deposit of vanadium is featured exclusively in Energy Digital magazine.

On vanadium’s unique properties, Brent Nykoliation, Vice President of Business Development for Uranium Star, tells Energy Digital, “Renewables won’t make it big unless there’s an efficient way to store the excess energy and release it when needed. Vanadium batteries have this capability.”

Each month Energy Digital sits down with an industry insider for a revealing Q&A. In the October issue, Energy Digital speaks to the CEO of Metalico Inc., a diversified recycler and fabricator who ranked Number 40 on Forbes magazine’s list of the 200 Best Small Companies in America. Company CEO Carlos Agüero talks openly about the ins and outs of his business, its green initiatives and, as an honest and reliable source of high-quality metals, rising above the negative reputation often associated with the US scrap metal industry.

Other October Highlights:

• In December world leaders will meet in Copenhagen to forge a new climate treaty to replace the current Kyoto Protocol. Not surprisingly, an overriding goal of the international agreement is to reduce worldwide emissions. Countries from North America to Europe are making strides toward such an end, with coal-fired power stations putting their best foot forward to not only meet the needs of a low carbon future, but continue to provide stable and secure energy supplies.

• Profiles of energy companies on the leading edge of the industry, including a host of international firms making an impact today.

The complete October issue of Energy Digital magazine is available online.
