Paso Robles-based mixed media artist Dale Evers has announced the addition of a brand new, 3,000-sqft wine tasting room to his outdoor sculpture displays and working art studios at Dragonfly Gardens in Paso Robles. Seven individual wine pouring spaces are now available for lease there.
The tasting booths start at $1,000 per month and include free use of the entire Dragonfly Gardens venue for two events per year. Evers says he hopes “to create a headier, Burning-Man-like” wine and art experience with the multifaceted venue, and says that Dragonfly Gardens gives area wineries and winemakers the opportunity to sell their wines in an “affordable, edgy, and sophisticated” space. He explains, “This could be an incredible stepping stone opportunity in the growth of any winery—and this could be especially true for a younger, more promising winery producing roughly 200.”
The venue, which can also be rented to private parties for special events, is outfitted for entertaining, hospitality and wine presentation with artistic works by both Evers and visionary artist-in-residence Steve Addi. “The idea is to provide a place and an experience where people come, relax, enjoy the gardens, witness working artists fulfilling their muse, and taste up to seven different wines,” says Evers of Phase 1 of his Dragonfly Gardens facility.
Specifics:
The tasting hall is adorned with a towering 12’x 7’ wine bottle chandelier (made by Evers and estimated at a $90,000 value) while the garden contains 30 pieces of out of doors art along with sculptural fire features, a 50’ x 20’ three-tiered cascading fountain, and the first of a series of giant wind chimes, also by Evers.
Background
Evers explains that during a trip he took to Santa Fe, New Mexico, he was impressed by the hundreds of thousands of tourists that visit Santa Fe annually, specifically for art. It was at that moment that he realized that Paso Robles could become a worldwide art and wine destination.
“Why not?” Evers asks, arguing that it is only natural for art to “fall into the wake of the booming wine industry.” He points for precedent to Sculpterra Winery, where Evers’ mentor John Jagger completed his life’s work and legacy in a spectacular outdoor sculpture garden display.
“I love this city,” Evers says. “Paso Robles is not aspiring to copy anyone. Part of the appeal of moving my studios to the North County was that I felt that Paso Robles is forward-thinking and wants to grow organically—grow their own vision, be original—and I want to be a part of that.”
In the second phase of development, Evers envisions the wine tasting booths being accompanied by coffee roasters, olive oil vendors, and a chef serving fresh, wine country cuisine from an outdoor kitchen and patio area. He is also planning on expanding the gardens with meandering trails.
Portfolio
Evers’ portfolio includes such corporate clients as the United States Olympic Committee, Alaska Airlines, Hilton Hotels, and the Government of the Cayman Islands, and private collectors Robin Williams, William Shatner, Pierce Brosnan, and Patty Hearst, just to name a few.
