Levittown Animal Hospital announced today it will expand its hours to include Sundays, making it the only general-practice veterinary hospital in the area open for business seven days a week. To celebrate its expanded hours and the addition of a new veterinarian to its staff, the hospital will host an Open House & Expo, on Sunday, October 25th from 11 am. to 3 pm. at its main office, located at 2703 Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown. The event is free and open to the public.
Levittown Animal Hospital's medical director, Dr. Dennis Leon, says the hospital's expanded hours will offer pet owners an alternative to visiting an expensive emergency clinic or waiting until Monday morning for the veterinary office to open. In addition, its Sunday hours will help pet owners avoid having to take time off during the workweek during these tough economic times.
Finding a veterinarian and staff to work on Sundays is a major obstacle for many veterinary hospitals. This is one of the reasons Levittown Animal Hospital actively recruited Dr. Erika Friedrich. "Not only did she come with an excellent medical and surgical background, but she also didn't mind working on Sundays,” said Dr. Leon. Dr. Friedrich recently resigned from her position as the lead emergency veterinarian at The Center for Specialized Veterinary Care, in Westbury, in order to pursue this opportunity.
Local pet owners say the new Sunday office hours will set this hospital apart from all the others. "It's an added convenience for me, and I feel much more comfortable bringing my pets to a local vet rather than an ER doctor who I may never see or speak to again," said Levittown resident Patricia Rosenberg, who owns two cats and a dog.
The Open House & Expo has been organized to reflect Levittown Animal Hospital’s mission of client education. Invited guests include representatives from local animal rescue groups, pet food manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, pet insurance companies, and dog training groups. Both children and adults will be entertained with a pet costume contest, stuffed animal surgery clinic, face painting, protection dog demonstrations, door prizes and giveaways. There will also be small lectures and workshops led by hospital employees and guest speakers, focusing on careers in animal care and veterinary medicine.
