bergenPAC is proud to present the Shaolin Warriors in a fully choreographed theatrical production, bringing remarkable skill, stunning movement and spectacular imagery of Kung Fu on October 9th. Performed by disciples of the Shaolin schools, known throughout the world for their disciplined and deadly martial-arts prowess. These Kung Fu masters have trained from a very young age in mental and physical disciplines, which allow them to perform feats one thought only possible in the movies. The production features many forms of Shaolin Kung Fu as well as a look at the daily life of the warriors and their Zen philosophy. In a performance that displays faith, discipline, respect and strength that cannot be matched in the Western world, these warriors show that mind over matter is achievable to degrees that seem unfathomable. With unimaginable control, the warriors are able to smash steel with their heads and twist their bodies into an amazing array of shapes and angles. Shaolin Warriors are more than a theatrical experience; it is an honor and a privilege to see this show.
According to legend, Chinese Kung Fu martial arts originated from the Shaolin Monastery (first established in AD 495) at the foot of Mt. Song in Dengfeng county, Henan province. For more than fifteen hundred years this Buddhist sanctuary has blossomed and withered, only to bloom again. It has seen glory and humiliation. It was burned down three times; it has produced countless Kung Fu masters and patriotic heroes; and generated many legends and mysteries.
Today, the Shaolin Monastery and Martial Arts are synonymous in China and around the world, and humble students from all over the globe make their way to the Shaolin Temple to learn the legendary skills of martial arts from the real masters. The show, Shaolin Warriors, is much more than a Kungfu demonstration. The four "acts" in the production symbolize the seasons of summer, autumn, winter and spring and present the profound philosophical theory that rests at the heart of Buddhism.
