The Florida State Golf Association (FSGA) and the Hamlet Country Club recently hosted the Florida Junior Golf Tour (FJT). More than 80 junior boys and girls from around the state of Florida participated in the tournament.
Kevin Jorden and Yueer (Cindy) Feng won the first tournament for the 16-18 age division this season at the Hamlet Country Club. Kevin Jorden, of Juno Beach, fired a two-under par 70 in the first round and was tied for the lead with Domenico Geminiani of Bradenton. In the final round Jorden started well by making birdies on three of the first four holes. He also birdied the tenth and eleventh holes and made one bogey coming in to post rounds of 70-71—141 for his first FJT victory.
Cindy Feng, of Orlando, captured her thirteenth FJT victory in the last three seasons with round of 71-72—143. In the final round Cindy played very steady, making two birdies and two bogies for an even par 72. Over the summer, Cindy, only 13 years old, qualified for the US Women’s Open, US Girls Junior Championship and US Women’s Amateur Championship. The shot of the day came from Travis Tolbert, of Titusville who made a hole-in-one on the par 3 12th hole.
According to Darin Green, Tournament Director for the Florida State Golf Association, “Everyone at the Club did an excellent job and it was a pleasure working with them. The players and parents really enjoyed their time at the Hamlet Country Club.”
“We were honored to host the Florida Junior Golf Tour here at the Hamlet. Our Superintendent, Jessie Riddle, had the course in top condition for Florida’s best of the best. The course definitely challenged the juniors and we enjoyed witnessing the great talent,” expressed Andy Anderson, the Hamlet’s Head PGA Golf Professional.
Courses such as Bear Lakes, PGA National and Inverrary Country Club have hosted the Florida Junior Golf Tour events over the past couple of years.
