Brighton, East Sussex, United Kingdom, 2009/09/23 - Semantico Limited, a leading provider of services and technology for online publishing, announces the launch of a new e-book platform designed and built for its client Brill.
Semantico Ltd, a leading provider of services and technology for online publishing, is pleased to announce the launch of a new e-book platform designed and built for its client Brill, starting with 855 e-books in PDF format. This is a key addition to Brill’s online publishing programme, allowing the company to monetise its Humanities and Social Sciences PDF collections while building on and improving its e-book platform.
A notable feature of the new platform is an enhanced user interface, the result of a user-orientated design phase which led to a number of new features. These include special display modes for content that the user is subscribed to, and advanced use of Ajax to make site controls more intuitive.
The website now carries 855 Brill e-Books published in 2007, 2008 and 2009, on the following subjects:
• Asian Studies
• Biblical Studies, Ancient Near East and Early Christianity
• Classical Studies
• European History and Culture
• Middle East and Islamic Studies
• Religious Studies, Theology and Philosophy
• Social Sciences.
Another 200 titles will be added before the end of this year.
Sam Bruinsma, Business Development Director, Brill, said: ‘We are delighted that our new dedicated e-book platform is ready to be offered to our customers. The demand for a digital version of our expansive book catalogue is rapidly growing and we were keen to offer it on our own platform. The development teams at Semantico and Brill did a great job in building this platform and preparing the content in a remarkable short time span. From now on we will be publishing annual e-book collections in all our subject areas.’
Richard Padley, Managing Director, Semantico, said: ‘We're thrilled to have delivered Brill a commercially successful e-book platform that raises the bar in this important growth area. Their new e-book platform is a great example of the success of SIPP in delivering a customised information architecture built on the core functionality of SIPP. Our partnership approach and our iterative development process allowed us to add features that offer meaningful search and display improvements to end users. ’
