Do you find yourself not only watching any and all of the Antiques Roadshow series whether they're British, American or Canadian? Do you play "beat the appraiser" to see if you can accurately peg the value of the antiques being appraised? Maybe you're an avid garage "saler", always on the prowl for the next treasure, or you own some antiques and are always looking for more information.
Regardless of your knowledge level, if you have an interest in learning more about antiques then Blinking Star Antiques' upcoming workshop series is for you. Over the next few months, Canadian Antiques Roadshow appraiser Tony Duke will be hosting a series of 3 workshops focused on antique furniture, general antiques, and hallmarked sterling silver.
The first workshop, "Antique Furniture 101", will be held at Blinking Star Antiques (blinkingstar.ca) in Union Bay on Wednesday September 23 from 7-9 pm. Participation is limited to 20 participants, in part due to space limitations, but mainly due to the format of the workshop. "I like to keep the group relatively small", explains Tony. "I ask that the participants bring a small piece of furniture or a drawer. Each piece has its own story, and the owner often knows a lot about its provenance. I can use the stories and the pieces as starting points to describe the characteristics of each piece that tell us when and where the piece was made, and which factors contribute to the monetary value of the item. Because the group is small, we have a good atmosphere and a lot of questions and stories are exchanged."
After this workshop, you can expect to go home with more information about antiques, and a few new acquaintances. You can reserve your spot by contacting Blinking Star Antiques.
