Metabo Corporation, a leading international manufacturer of professional grade portable electric power tools and abrasives for industrial, construction and welding applications, introduces the new SB18 LTX hammer drill/driver from the PowerMasterSeries of 18 V lithium-ion cordless power tools.

By combining Metabo’s advanced tool ergonomics with the performance and capacity advantages of lithium-ion batteries, the hammer drill/driver is both durable and powerful.

Compared to other models in its class, Metabo’s new cordless hammer drill/driver is more compact in weight and size to provide greater ease of use. As a result, the SB18 LTX diminishes operator fatigue and can fit into tighter, smaller spaces than other cordless hammer drill/drivers.

Metabo’s versatile SB18 LTX hammer drill/driver is ideal for rugged industrial and commercial applications requiring a reliable, high-performance and long-lasting cordless power tool. Users that require high tool performance and rugged operation, such as electricians, contractors, remodelers, cable installers and HVAC technicians, can take advantage of the new hammer drill/driver’s power and battery capabilities, plus the size and weight benefits.

In addition to its already reduced size, the SB18 LTX also features Metabo’s unique hex spindle technology that allows the user to remove the chuck and drive screws with the 1/4" hexagon recessed spindle using an accessory bit retainer. The removable chuck gives users the freedom to maneuver the cordless tool in tight or cramped spaces that other cordless tools cannot handle, such as around joists or in assembly operations.

Using guided air flow ducting, Metabo’s proven air-cooled charging technology cools the battery pack to an optimum temperature level during charging. This increases productivity by shortening the charging process by 30% and improves battery life by keeping the individual cells cooler during the charging process. The 18 V, 2.6 Ah Li-Power Extreme battery, standard on the SB18 LTX, also lasts longer between charges for extended work time in extreme applications.

Metabo’s revolutionary cell monitoring concept, Electronic Single Cell Protection (ESCP), electronically monitors the battery’s individual cells while in use and during charging to prevent damage. Cells are prevented from discharging completely while working and from overcharging while charging. This concept ensures prolonged battery service life that is further protected by Metabo’s industry-leading XXL three-year warranty. The warranty covers the tools, batteries and chargers.

Powerfully mastering even the toughest jobs, the 18 V cordless SB18 LTX features a dual torque adjustment the user sets to either 13 inch-lbs through 31 inch-lbs or 31 inch-lbs through 114 inch-lbs of torque. In the event of extreme resistance, the hammer drill/driver has up to 885 inch-lbs of torque for momentary maximum spikes (hard case) and a maximum continuous running torque of 389 inch-lbs (soft case). In hammer drill mode, the rugged cordless tool also features a maximum of 28,000 impacts per minute.

Metabo’s exclusive Variospeed full-wave electronic speed control on the new hammer drill/driver provides the user the ability to easily adjust the speed from the lowest to highest value. The four-pole motor supplies high performance with an increased power to size ratio. Weighing only 5.5 lbs and measuring only 9-5/16” long, the lightweight and compact hammer drill/driver uses an aluminum die cast gear housing for optimum heat dissipation and increased durability.

The SB18 LTX offers a no-load speed of 0 rpm to 400 rpm in first gear and 0 rpm to 1,400 rpm in second gear. The hammer drill/driver is equipped with a 1/2" chuck and has a drilling capacity of 1/2" in mild steel, 1/2" in concrete and 2" in wood. For increased ease of use, the new cordless tool features a built-in LED worklight for easier visibility in dark spaces.

The SB18 LTX hammer drill/driver joins the recently launched BS18 LTX drill/driver in the newly designed series of cordless tools.
