	More than 500 walkers are expected to participate in the 3rd Annual Paint El Paseo Pink Walk set for Saturday, October 10, 2009. Presenting walk sponsor is the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Desert Regional Medical Center. The walk is the biggest fundraising event for Desert Cancer Foundation’s Suzanne Jackson Breast Cancer Fund (SJBCF) which provides breast cancer screening and diagnosis at no cost to low income, uninsured Coachella Valley residents. “This is a critical event for us,” said Peggy Bilous, Executive Director of Desert Cancer Foundation. “With the support and money raised, we can continue to grow our program and help our neighbors in need.” Last year the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk drew 500 participants and raised more than $100,000. The funds raised were used to provide services to over 800 local residents. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the walk will help focus attention on a disease which is the leading cause of death among women in the United States ages 40-59. “We can’t emphasize enough how important early detection is. When caught early, there is a 98 percent five-year survival rate for breast cancer,” explained Bilous. Those interested in participating can register as an individual or as a team. The opening ceremony and walk will begin at 9:30am. Each registered participant will receive a 2009 Paint El Paseo Pink t-shirt and wristband.
