Through its long standing relationship with Sheida International (Sheida) in Oman, SafeDrive International (SDI – being a 100% owned subsidiary of the MiX Telematics Group of Companies) was recently contracted by Sheida to assist in providing full contract management and support for a 4 year contract for the provision of Road Safety Enforcement & Defensive Driving Standards Services to PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT OMAN (PDO).

SafeDrive’s commitment to PDO focuses on two main areas:
1. Standards Body
SDI is the Standards Body for Road Transport Operations within PDO. SDI is involved in all manner of Road Transport issues including gap analysis for vehicle training and road safety measures, hazard analysis and risk assessment, auditing training providers and other transport related systems. SDI is also responsible for conducting driver assessments and recertification training to PDO employees and contractors in accordance with PDO’s ongoing commitment to Road Safety.
2. Road Safety Standard Team (RSST)
The RSST role is to ensure the enforcement of PDO rules and regulations in relation to Road Transport Operations carried out by PDO employees and contractors. The RSST is deployed to eight geographical regions within Oman to conduct vehicle compliance checks, licence checks, speed enforcement, blood alcohol level testing, crash investigation and escort duties. The RSST is also heavily involved with Safe Driving campaigns. The RSST’s aim is to ensure the frequency of Road Transport mishaps is reduced through compliance with PDO rules and standards as well as Omani laws.
SDI is currently preparing for mobilisation and will employ in excess of 65 staff in order to meet initial demand for services and projects future growth.
