Discordian Society, an Asheville, NC based band, today announced they have landed an opportunity to open for major jamrock artist, Yonrico Scott at The Five Spot (venue) in Atlanta, GA, on August 28th, 2009.
Discordian Society, with its unique musical style blending jazz, rock, and funk, stands to gain regional recognition as a fast-rising, indie music artist in the Southeast if they can follow up this opportunity with an immediate regional tour. Members of the Yonrico Scott Band include keyboardist, Kofi Burbridge (brother of Allman Brothers’ bassist, Oteil Burbridge), and bassist, Todd Smallie. Scott, Burbridge (Kofi), and Smallie are all members of the Derek Trucks Band.
“This opening gig is a spot many young jamrock artists would consider pivotal and be thrilled to land,” says publicist , Gen Cole. “Discordian Society is fortunate to have an opportunity to kick off a new regional tour by opening for Yonrico Scott.”

Discordian Society (DS), based in Asheville, NC, was formed in October 2001. DS, a staple of the Southeast for over eight years, has branded its own eclectic musical style, spanning elements of jazz, rock, and hard-driving funk rhythms. With influences ranging from Zappa and John Xorn, to Jaco Pastorius and Primus, the band has gone through a few member changes over the years, but is known for delivering a diverse musical experience.
