xtrasys is able to host all of a customer’s applications and data on secure and remote servers in state of the art data centres. This new service enables small to medium sized businesses to receive enterprise-grade security, accessibility and flexibility at a cost sustainable for smaller companies.

The Extrasys launch is in response to the growing pressures on smaller businesses within the UK including competition, rising costs and the changing regulatory environment. Combining leading technology with a UK-wide support and engineering network, this new service delivers a brand new concept in technology solutions. The service hosts companies’ entire IT applications so they do not have to buy, install, license or update software and will enable users to access their entire desktop applications remotely, securely, using leading edge high speed connectivity. The solution will enable firms to execute large operational cost reductions, whilst also providing them with greater freedom to develop their business, utilising a new IT framework which is both secure and flexible.

Simon Arbuthnot, Director of Operations, Extrasys, says, “The launch of Extrasys comes at an important moment in the development of the SME industry within the UK. The SME community is becoming increasingly aware of the need to invest in better IT support, greater accessibility and the importance of protecting the business.

“Due to the changing business environment there is a real demand for a leading solution which enables SMEs to meet stringent regulatory criteria and also to improve their market position. We feel the launch of Extrasys is an important step forward in the SME industry as the service will allow businesses to achieve greater profitability by concentrating on their core business issues without the concern of setting up and operating an IT infrastructure.”

The launch of Extrasys (extrasys.com) also comes at the same time as the release of a UK-wide SME research report carried out by leading research house, David Lewis Consultancy.

In the research, conducted throughout the UK during the first two months of 2006, owners, CEOs and MDs of UK SMEs were questioned on their main business challenges for the year ahead.
Overall results found that 80% of respondents agreed that technology innovation and new business solutions are changing the culture of the SME industry and are becoming strategically vital to the growth and competitive success of smaller enterprises. The survey also revealed that the main drivers of this cultural change are accessibility, security and customer service.

However, the survey also found that the most pressing challenges for SMEs are competition (35%) and rising costs (28%), followed by business continuity, risk and disaster recovery (25%). Over half of all respondents agreed their existing infrastructure is not secure enough, yet only 6% recognized that business continuity and investment in their IT infrastructure would be a key expense in 2006.
