The Zonta Club of Charleston has announced its new board at the July 2009 meeting. Vladia Jurcova-Spencer was named the new president of the club; Kathleen Rogers was elected the vice-president, Diana Bogart was elected the treasurer, Patricia Warner will remain secretary, and Pam Tinsley and LaTanya Fisher were elected on the board of directors. The Charleston club also inducted its new members: Teri Bastian, Christopher Cisneros, Debbie Dean, Caraline DiNunzio, Stephanie Woods, Megan Fink and Ruth Ballou.
Zonta membership is by invitation. The local chapter is devoted to supporting teenage girls and young women in the Greater Charleston Area to become confident and independent, and avoid becoming victims of abuse. Zonta’s mission is to stop violence, and to improve lives of women through a variety of international service projects. In 2008-2010, Zonta International will fund service programs in Rwanda (Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV), in Guatemala and El Salvador (Safe Cities for Women), in Liberia (Reduction of Obstetric Fistula). The club meets once a month at The Harbour Club in downtown Charleston.
